2025 has been a big year for TrainSplit. We rolled out a new design, shipped tools that make planning easier, and added features many of you have been asking for. The goal has been simple. Make train travel clearer, quicker, and more intuitive whether you’re booking a daily commute or a last minute weekend escape.
As we head into the new year, here’s a look at the improvements we delivered across the site and app. Some you’ll have spotted already. Others might quietly make your next journey a little smoother. Either way, every update has been shaped by real feedback from passengers who want booking to be easier and travel to be better.
A new look for TrainSplit!
You’ve probably already heard about our new look which we launched in July. This brings you a brand new experience to make it as easy as possible to book your tickets. We have focused on ensuring the site is user friendly across a range of devices, while also meeting modern accessibility standards.
Open returns
If you are unsure when you are returning on your journey, we now offer the ability to book open return tickets, either same day or within a specified period of time (depending on the route).
Just press the “open return” button when starting your search, and we will show you all available flexible tickets.
Save and plan favourite journeys
Do you commonly search for and book the same or similar journeys? Maybe your daily commute to work, or visiting family and friends at the weekend? We now have the ability to save these searches to enable you to quickly start a new one without having to re-enter the same search criteria every time.
When you start a new search, hit the new “Add favourite” button in the top right corner of the results page to save a new favourite. You’re able to specify applicable days you commonly book for (e.g. only weekdays or only weekends), along with your normal range of search criteria.
When you want to start a new search later, just click on “Favourites” above the journey planner on the home page and select the search you want to start.
We’ll soon be adding the ability to save any advanced options you may set as part of your search, as well as the ability to quickly add new favourites from the confirmation page, and the ability to manage your favourites from the account page.
Train facilities and planned stock
Want to know whether you’ll have an easily accessible plug socket to charge your phone on your journey? Maybe you want a guaranteed table? When confirming your ticket choice, we’ll (where available) give you an idea of the facilities available on your journey for the selected class of ticket you have. If your journey involves more than one leg, we’ll show you this for all legs as part of your journey.
In addition, where we have an idea of the type of train you’ll be travelling on for your journey, we will also tell you this as part of the journey summary.
Please note that while we try our best to give you an accurate idea of the train you will be travelling on and the facilities available as part of your journey, these may change for operational reasons without notice.

Send tickets and booking confirmations to an additional email
If you are booking on behalf of someone else, or travelling with a friend or family member, you can now add their email address during the checkout process, and we will automatically send them a copy of the booking confirmation email and E-Tickets (where applicable).
Seat selection is now easier than ever
As part of our redesign, we have made it easier to select different seats if your journey offers seat reservations. Before you proceed to checkout, you can now select the option to pick your seats straight away. Alternatively, hit the seat icon next to your journey at checkout to quickly access our seat selector and pick your desired seats.
PlusBus maps
With the wider rollout of Plusbus tickets available to purchase alongside your train journey (and the rollout of E-Tickets), you can now get a glance of where your ticket is valid before purchasing. Click on “View Plusbus map” below the available tickets you can add, and we’ll show you the areas you can travel in.
If you’re tired of juggling plastic cards or worrying about forgetting your Railcard at home, switch to a digital version. Buy a digital Railcard through rail.cards, store it in the TrainSplit app, and your Railcard and tickets sit in one place for stress free travel. No rummaging at barriers. No panic checking your pockets. Buy yours here.
Filter your search results
You are now able to filter your provided search results by a number of criteria: ranging from filtering the types of tickets we show you results for, specific operators, or lowering the range of prices of available tickets. Hit the “Filters” button in the top right of the results page to take a look at the options available.
That wraps up the biggest updates we released in 2025. We’ve focused on practical improvements that save time, reduce friction, and give you more control over how you travel. And we’re not done. Early 2026 will bring new upgrades to journey planning, better personalisation tools, and even more ways to save with split tickets and Railcards.
Thank you for travelling with TrainSplit this year. Whether you’ve taken one journey or a hundred, we’re grateful for every booking, every bit of feedback, and every suggestion that’s helped steer our roadmap. We look forward to taking you further in 2026.
